Assault

On Oct. 1 at 11:40 p.m., UWPS officers were called to the Bombshelter Pub by a report of an unruly customer.

Investigation revealed a male student at the bar had been involved in prohibited activities and had been directed to leave by security staff. The student refused to comply and challenged the staff to throw him out. In the process of removing him, it was alleged that the student assaulted three members of the security staff.

The 22-year-old student was arrested and charged with three counts of assault. He is scheduled to attend Kitchener court Nov. 18.
False fire alarm

At 1:37 a.m. on Oct. 4, UWPS officers and the Waterloo fire department responded to a fire alarm at the Wilmot Court residence. The building was evacuated and a subsequent search revealed that there was no fire.

The cause of the alarm was found to be a falsely activated pull station alarm on the first floor by stairway 52.

This type of incident is taken very seriously by UWPS. Pulling the alarm results in a danger to people inside the building who have to evacuate. There is also a danger for the fire departments and other emergency services personnel who respond. Police rigorously investigate these incidents. When those responsible are identified, they are charged.

Police encourage anyone who has information regarding falsely activated fire alarms to report to their don or UWPS.
