UW student Alexandra Foto was killed Aug. 8 when her bicycle collided with a cement truck. Foto, 19, was an international development student entering her second year this September. The collision happened in London, Ontario, Foto’s hometown.

Foto was a varsity cheerleader and would have stepped into the position of a residence don at St. Paul’s in the fall term.

“In her time at St. Paul’s, she has most certainly left a lasting impact with all students and staff who knew her” said St. Paul’s principal Graham Brown in a statement on the college’s website. “The entire St. Paul’s community grieves this great loss.”

Foto was involved with World Vision Canada, having travelled with the organization to Brazil in May as a youth ambassador. She had also travelled to Kenya and the Domincan Republic on mission trips, according to the London Free Press.

“Alex was a passionate ambassador for her school and she will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her,” said dean of the environment faculty, Jean Andrey.

Days after Foto’s death, the UW Cheerleading team tweeted a photo of new team hair ribbons marked with a black and gold “A” and the words “Forever a WARRIOR.”

“To wear with pride in remembrance of our friend, sister, and teammate,” read the tweet.
