According to a UW all-campus alert, the Douglas Wright Engineering (DWE) building has been evacuated and will remain closed until further notice due to a major city sewer backup.

The alert was issued at 3:57 p.m. on Sept. 24 to UW community members through email, text, and the Regroup emergency notification system. The university is asking students and staff to avoid DWE and the affected surrounding areas.

Plant Operations is working with the City of Waterloo to address the issue.

Classes scheduled in DWE will be cancelled, relocated, or delivered remotely as appropriate. The university said students and instructors affected by the closure will receive additional information as it becomes available.
